What level is my team?

Recreational Team: participates in an intra-club league (in-house league) which (A) the use of tryouts, invitations, recruiting, or any similar process to roster players to any team on the basis of talent or ability is prohibited; (B) the club administrating the league accepts as participants in the league any eligible youths (subject to reasonable terms on registration); (C) a system of rostering players is used to establish a fair or balanced distribution of playing talent among all teams participating; and (D) league rules require that each player must play at least one-half of each game except for reasons of injury, illness, or discipline..

Recreational Plus Team: recreational team that participates in an inter-club league (teams from multiple clubs playing each other)..

Metro Select Team: a team formed for a recreational or recreational plus league during the prior season and is maintaining a minimum of 70% of its players. Leagues/clubs may appoint their top ranking fall or spring recreational teams to be designated as Select provided a minimum of 70% of players are returning players.

Competitive Team: participates in an inter-club league (teams from multiple clubs playing each other) in which the use of a selection process such as tryouts or invitations to selectively roster players is used.. Competitive teams are bronze or above level..

Is there team seeding?

A seeding event for new CPL and Metro teams is held the last weekend of July annually. Teams play a minimum of three abbreviated matches against other teams in their seeding group in one day. The information and results from seeding is used to determine brackets for the upcoming season..

Why should our U13-U19 team play in CPL?

It provides an opportunity for like level play with teams from multiple US Soccer Federation (USSF) affiliates with no team fee.. Teams from all USSF affiliates can join, so you are not stuck playing the same few teams season after season..

In a nutshell, it’s an option for like level play with teams from multiple US Soccer Federation (USSF) affiliates at an affordable cost. No need to pay high team fees per season.for the opportunity to play teams at a more advanced level than recreational. Teams from all USSF affiliates can join, so you are not stuck playing the same few teams season after season..

Do we have to hold tryouts to form a Metro team?

No, your club can form a Metro Select team from a team formed for recreational play in the prior season and augment with up to 30% new players via invitation or a selection process of their choosing. Competitive teams can be 100% formed via a selection process of the club’s choosing.

When does the tryout window open?

January 1 annually. Remember, adults cannot approach or entice players to change clubs, but players can tryout for other clubs if they choose. The club the player is trying out for must be made aware the player is bond to another club for the seasonal year (Aug 1-Jul 31) before trying out.. If opting to change clubs, the parent must request a player release in writing, obtain the release before accepting an offer and the player is ineligible to play in competition for the new team for 7 days after release..

When are CPL and Metro games?

8-10 games per team are scheduled on Saturdays beginning mid-August through early November. Games may be rescheduled with agreement of both coaches to alternate dates or days of the week provided the hosting club can support fields/referees.

Are Metro brackets age pure or combined?

Default brackets are U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19. Age pure brackets will be formed if there are available like level teams registered in age groups.,

Do coaches in CPL and Metro have to be licensed?

No, there is not a license level requirement for coaches. It is suggested that coaches complete US Soccer Grassroots courses (https://learning.ussoccer.com/coach) to gain coaching knowledge and advance on to higher level licenses if desired.

Coach licenses and risk assessment are separate requirements. All coaches have to complete USSF and California required risk assessment before being eligible to supervise kids.
